Meet the Founder

Hello, I'm Monika Basra, the founder of Mykaa.

For years, I thrived in the structured world of corporate life—a steady 9-to-5 routine. But deep down, I knew something was missing. I had always had an eye for jewellery—pieces that were sophisticated, soulful, and striking. Compliments on my jewellery choices were frequent, but more importantly, they ignited a spark.

In 2005, I moved to the UK with my four-month-old daughter. With no family support system, I paused my career to raise her. Once she started school, I gradually stepped back into the workforce—earning a certification in childcare and working in daycare settings, eventually specializing in special needs education.

I loved the work—but the calling to do something of my own, something lasting, grew stronger.

That’s how Mykaa came to life. The name itself is a blend of personal heritage—a tribute to my mother, and a legacy for my daughter. It was a family effort, with my husband and daughter helping shape the brand’s name, logo, and soul.

Jewellery felt like the perfect medium to carry forward that legacy. But I didn’t want to create fleeting trends or imitation pieces. I envisioned jewellery that tells a story—crafted with intention, made to last, and destined to be passed down.

We chose Sterling Silver as our foundation—precious, durable, and accessible. Every design is handcrafted, often adorned with semi-precious stones and finished in 22kt gold. We struck a balance: not as expensive as fine gold, yet far beyond disposable fashion.

At Mykaa, every piece carries meaning, memory, and craftsmanship. It's a dream shaped by passion, rooted in family, and made for every woman who wants her jewellery to be more than just an accessory—but a part of her story.
